20 Nov Five Beach Games for Kids
The best things in life are free. This couldn’t be more true for the beach. Hours of fun can be had playing in the waves, building sand castles or just relaxing. As we gear up for summer we thought we’d share some cool beach games for kids. Glenelg beach is one of the best beaches in Adelaide, with the softest sand – perfect for plenty of games. When you’re done with beach games, you can pop up to The Beachouse and play a few more!
Do you wanna build a sandman?
Inspired by Frozen, most girls (and boys!) will jump at the chance to build a sandman – the sand version of a snowman. Children can get creative by building a sandman from shells, pebbles, seaweed or any washed up bits and bobs they can find. We suggest taking a bucket or spade down with you to help collect and pack the sand. This game is good for creativity and concentration.
Water bucket relay
Arrange a line of shells or pebbles and get the kids to run a relay race. Set up two markers as a start and end point and see who can transport the items the fastest. Make sure you set the rules that they can only carry one item at a time. This game is good for agility and light cardio.
Give the kids a list of items to find on the beach for a beach treasure hunt. A shell, a stick, something long, something short, etc. Set a firm rule and strict markers for how far they can venture for their treasure so they don’t get lost. Give ice creams as a prize once the treasure hunt is over. It should keep them busy for a while. You can keep the list as long or as short as you like. Focus and listening skills are used for this game.
Build an animal
Sandcastles are always fun to create! But for something different – give the kids an animal or object to build in the sand. Encourage them to use whatever they can find on the beach to build their animal. Look up two fun facts about the animal that you can share with them to make the game educational too. This game is good for concentration and creativity.
Fly a kite!
You’ll need to prepare for this one. Either purchase a kite or get some materials to build your own. If it’s a windy day, take your kite down to the beach and launch it into the sky.
